Butch Trusty is Chief Impact Officer at Education Cities, a national nonprofit that supports and advises city-based education organizations on their efforts to grow great public schools. Butch leads Education Cities’ advising practice and knowledge management efforts. Butch and the other members of the Impact Team work directly with city leaders to strengthen their efforts to grow great public schools, and frequently catalogue best practices for dissemination across the sector.

Prior to his role at Education Cities, Butch most recently served as the Education Program Director at the Joyce Foundation in Chicago. Prior to joining Joyce, Butch was a manager with The Bridgespan Group, where he advised school districts, philanthropic entities and policy and advocacy organizations on strategies to accelerate their impact. Butch was also an Education Pioneers fellow with the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and has held positions with the Alliance for Excellent Education and EdisonLearning.

Butch has a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Brown University and has both a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public policy from Duke University. Butch is currently a founding Board member of the Great Lakes Academy Charter School in Chicago and sits on the Board of Overseers of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University.
